Project included Safety Risk Management Documents, Siting Analysis, Conceptual and Final Design for Florida Gulf Coast area airport. Siting investigated nine sites with differing controller eye heights range from 71 to 99 feet. Comparative Safety Analysis was signed in just one month.
The site setbacks conformed to the FAA Security Order 1600 and the height selected for the site was the shortest required. This 2 runway airport has intersecting runways and the controller line of sight was carefully studied to plan the orientation of the cab and shaft. The surrounding ground elevations were raised with mounded soil to reduce the building height while maintaining controller eye level.
Implementing the CM at Risk method of construction with Peter Brown Construction, the project was completed in June, 2012.
AJT provided construction support including on site field inspections, submittal reviews and construction draws, as well as the design and bid package for communications equipment.
The new 6 story 62'-5" (cab floor height) tower design includes 5 finished levels including the cab and 1 unfinished floor for future use. Six feet of fill was imported to reduce the overall tower height.
